The best romances of all time
What is a romance? The root of this word can confuse and take far away from the right answer – to recall the Romanesque style in art, the literary genre of the novel, and finally, about such an artistic style of the first third of the 19th century as romanticism. In fact, all these phenomena have little or no relation to romance as a song genre … It is known from history that collections of Spanish songs of the same subject and similar in plot were called “romancero.” When the genre came to other countries, the word became a term. Today, a romance refers to a poem laid on a musical rhythmic basis. It, as a rule, is lyrical in nature, tells of love. Performing romances requires not only strength, but also the beauty of the singer’s voice. Music is not just an addition to poetry, but an important component of the entire mini-performance.
WHERE THE SAME WITHOUT THEM! .. Gypsies are a special people. Nomadic way of life, disordered relations, eternal disagreements with the law, lack of a state. But also a special song culture. If you ask many, many, what kind of romance will be the best romance of all time for them, then there is no doubt that one of the first will be called “Black Eyes”. Gypsies, before self-forgetfulness and to tears, liked to listen to many layers of the Russian pre-revolutionary intelligentsia – from Pushkin to Blok. Apollo Grigoriev, who wrote the poem “Oh, at least you are with me / My friend is seven-stringed!”, Has since been especially fond of gypsy tunes, which has since become firmly entrenched in romance song culture. Now this song with the invariable refrain “Eh, once, again, many more, many times” in whose only repertoire is not present. In fact, the variation on gypsy themes turned out to be stronger than the original gypsy songs.
And yet – about the “Eyes.” Like Grigoriev’s poem, this text has undergone changes in vocal performance. Each performer, at least a little bit, brought a “gag” – starting with the master of the Russian song of the early twentieth century, Fedor Ivanovich Chaliapin. It is not surprising that the author of the text went into the shadows, more precisely, only the first stanza remained from his authorship. He was the Ukrainian poet Eugene Grebinka (Grebenka), a friend of the much more famous Kobzar – Taras Shevchenko. Black eyes. The story of the creation of the poem is banal and dramatic at the same time: Grebinka fell in love with a girl named Maria, wrote his masterpiece in one night, a year later admitted to the object of his passion in passion itself, and four years later he died, having only “sip “From family happiness … It is also interesting that the now forgotten French composer Florian German later added to this romance the melody of the military march – the very one with which the French invaded Russia in 1812.
WHAT IS KOLCHAK … Among the best romances of all time and Russia, the romance “Burn, Burn, My Star” is unique in its own way. One of the most sentimental legends ascribes it to the authorship of Admiral Kolchak. With this romance on his lips, they say, Kolchak and accepted death. That’s just a problem: the year of birth of Kolchak is 1874. And the poem, which became a romance, was written back in 1846-1847. It was dedicated to the then widely celebrated 700th anniversary of Moscow. And the star mentioned in the text is by no means symbolic: the astronomer Le Verrier discovered the planet Neptune at the same time and soon they could see it through a telescope. Future lawyer, and then still a student at Moscow University, Vladimir Chuevsky wrote poetry, composer Pyotr Bulakhov wrote music. Burn, burn, my star But only in the performance of singer Vladimir Sabinin the song “went” and became incredibly popular. Then, for some reason, the new authorities considered the romance “White Guard”, and even such singers as S. Lemeshev and I. Kozlovsky had to perform it almost illegally. He triumphantly “returned” to his homeland only after he sounded in the American film adaptation of “War and Peace” in 1957. Immediately – to the ladies! It may be controversial to consider the song Besame mucho as a romance, but it is also pointless to deny that the best romances of all time will lose without her presence in this rich collection.
The author of the text and music, Consuelo Velazquez, was only 16 years old when in 1941 she was inspired by the aria from the opera “Goyescas” by Spanish composer Enrique Granados. The young Mexican was very musically gifted by nature. This is evidenced by the fact that at only 15 years old she began to teach the piano course. So is it any wonder the appearance of a masterpiece and the fact that already three years later the song won one of the New York charts. By the way, the first of the Mexican songs in general. Besame mucho Since then, more than sixty years have passed. Unfortunately, in 2005, Consuelo Velazquez died … And the song is alive.
